Image of Carl J.H. Fedeler Painting

Ship Portrait of the German full-rigged Ship "Anne & Emilie" 1843, the vessel with the old ensign of Bremen at sea, signed and indistinctly dated, Oil on canvas, 60 x 90 cm (24 x 36 "), not relined, original gilt frame, the possession of a Private Collector in Northern Germany

Note: The original ensign has been alterated by an unknown hand to the American ensign (by adding stars in the upper left corner to the Bremen ensign with the red stripes). This inpaint has been removed meanwhile. Click on the image to see a larger illustration. Please refer to the FineArtEmporium page for C.J.H. Fedeler.

Image of Petersen Painting

Ship Portrait of the German Bark "India - erbaut von E. Dreyer" 1850, the Bark of Hamburg under full sail and showing the ensign of Hamburg, on the right side a Pilot Schooner (inscribed "Lootse") from Blankenese, signed and dated, Oil on canvas, 53 x 82 cm, not relined, the possession of a Private Collector in Northern Germany

Note: Some ship portraits, like this one, were also commissioned by the builders of the vessels, in this case E. Dreyer from Hamburg. Click on the image to see a larger illustration. Photo Copyright is with the Fine Art Emporium. Please refer to the FineArtEmporium page for Lorenz Petersen.

Image of Engel Hoogerheyden Painting

Two East India Man at choppy seas with the eye of a Hurricane beyond, ca. 1795, with a lot of seafarers shown on the vessels, signed with initials "E.H." lower left on a piece of floating wood, Oil on panel, 27 x 40 cm, the possession of a Private Collection in Bremen, Germany

Note: Typical for the artist is the very detailled drawing of the depicted vessels and the smooth handling of the waves. Rarely we find such exciting light effects in his works like shown on this pciture. Click on the image to see a larger color illustration. Photo Copyright is with the Fine Art Emporium. Image of Buttersworth Painting

The British Man-of-War St. George (Flaggship of Nelson) in a Gale 1808, the vessel is hit by a severe wave, inscribed and dated on reverse, Oil on board, ca. 25 x 38 cm, good condition, the possession of a Private Collector in Great Britain

Note: Although not signed this painting can be attributed to Buttersworth Senior. Despite the depiction of the famous British ship this stormy picture is a weaker work by the artist. Image of Buttersworth Painting

A British Frigate chasing a Spanish Frigate at sea, executed at the beginning of the 19th Century, the vessels in action and sailing at full speed, indistincly signed "T. Buttersworth", Oil on canvas, 55 x 68 cm, good condition, period gilt frame, the possession of a Private Collector in the United States of America

Note: Very diffcult to say, if this work has been executed by the father or son. Because of the style of the water we suppose that this is a high quality work of Buttersworth Junior.
