John Henry Mohrmann (American, 1857-1916) - Ship Portrait of the British four-masted Bark BERMUDA 1894 – The vessel is shown under sail on the open sea with sailing boats beyond - Oil on canvas, relined – 60 x 98 cm (23 5/8 x 38 1/2 in.) – signed "H. Mohrmann" and dated "1894" – European Collection

Note: The *Bermuda* was built in 1893 on the ship yard of Russel & Co. in Greenock (Scotland) for the shipping company P. Denniston & Co in Greenock. Under the captains H. Krohn, E.O.M. Korff, J.H.T. Witt and F. Fretwurst it sailed to India, Australia and to the westcoast of America. In 1912 the *Bermuda* was sold to C.Bech & Co. in Tvedestrand and became the name *Nordhav*. John Henry Mohrmann (American, 1857-1916) - Ship Portrait of the Danish Steamer "L. P. Holmblad" with auxilliary sails set at sea heading for Antwerp 1894, the vessel is shown on a calm sea with a sailing ship in the background - signed and dated "H. Mohrmann 1894" lower left - Oil on canvas - 60 x 100 cm (24 x 39 in) - good condition, not relined, inpaint visible under ultraviolet light in some sky and water sections - in the original veneered wooden frame and on the original stretcher

Note: This is a typical and early large size work by the artist with a slight "on-Deck" view of the vessel. The captain and other the seaman are shown on board. The "L.P. Holmblad" was most likely named after the famous Dragor industrialist Lauritz Peter Holmblad, who had a manufacturing fabric in Amager, Denmark. Note: The steamer *Lavinia* was built in 1887 on the shipyard of the Flensburger Schiffsbau-Gesellschaft for the shipping company A.Kirsten in Hamburg, using an iron construction. Captains: Grunden 88/90, M. Crety 91/95, W. Richert 95. The Steamer was sold to Kalikanoff in Wladiwostock in 1896. Click on the image to enlarge the picture. Note: The steamer *Lemnos* was built in 1883 as PADANG in Middlesbroug / England using an iron construction., L 91,15m, W 11,27 m, D 7,18 m, 2191 GRT. Sold to the shipping company Kosmos, Hamburg June 26th 1896, sold to shipping company Laeisz March 5th 1898, sold to Deutsche Levante-Linie October 20th 1900. From 1896 to 1901 Captain P. Braren of Föhr was in command. The steamer sank after a collision in Dec. 1901 on the Elbe river. The Painting was formerly in the possession of family Braren of Föhr.
