Antonio Jacobsen (American, 1850-1921) - Ship Portrait of the Belgian Steamer "Henry Eyde" on the Atlantic 1881, a portrait of the vessel at the open sea in heavy weather - signed and dated "A. Jacobsen 1881" - Oil on canvas - 56 x 91 cm (22 x 36 in) - good condition, professionally relined, few inpaint only - period frame - European Collection

Note: This is an early and well executed painting by the artist. A sketch and another oil on canvas portrait of this steamer by Jacobsen is in the Mariners Museum (VA) - please refer to Sniffen. The "Henry Eyde" was built in 1879 at Doxford in Sunderland for the Belgian company Steinman & Ludwig" and sailed regularly from Antwerp to New York.
