Ship Portrait of the Barque "Kriemhild" (of Hamburg) ca. 1885, the vessel is shown at fair weather and under full sail off a Far Eastern coastline - inscribed with Ship`s name on Flagg, traces of old signature - Oil on canvas - ca. 18 by 24 inch. (45 x 60 cm), with frame 21 5/8 x 31 inch (55 x 79 cm) - cleaned and restored (tears were repaired and inpaint), in a period Chinese Frame - Private Collection, Northern Bavaria

The Barque Kriemhild was built 1884 by Germania for Matzen in Hamburg and sailed for this company until 1900. In German: Originales Schiffsportrait bzw. Kapitänsbild der Bark Kriemhild, die 1884 von der Schiffsbau Act. Ges. Germania für die Reederei C.M. Matzen in Hamburg gebaut wurde. Die Bark war dort von 1884 bis 1900 im Einsatz. Öl auf Leinwand 45 x 60 cm plus Rahmen. Im China-Rahmen der Zeit.

As you can see on the large photo the typical Crackle in the water - which regularly appears at such paintings - has been left as it is and was NOT covered by inpaint. Many China Trade paintings were sadly spoiled by restorers trying to "hide" this Crackle with retouches.
