The white spot is the middle is a flag / ensign monted on the wall of the house. The person in front of the entrance (upper photo) is talking with a second person. Further Chinese persons in the village can be seen when you look through the entrance (upper photo). The sky in the background (below) has a romantic touch, likely the artist wanted to express an afternoon or morning atmosphere. This is overall a painting expressing a calm scene in 19th Century coastal China.
