Large Oilpainting with Shipping off Kronborg Castle, Elsinore ca. 1880, marine painting or ship portrait, a full-rigged sailing vessel passing the Castle (the ship can be identified by signal flags), other vessels in the background, signed lower left with monogram H.St., Oil on canvas, - 62 x 95 cm (24 1/2 x 37 1/2 in.) and with the frame 79 x 110 cm (31 x 43 1/4 in.), slight crackle in few places, cleaned and in good condition, gilted period frame - Corporate Collection

Note: The "Hamlet" castle in the background is shown in good details, also the harbour or Elsinore is visible and a Dutch or German sailing vessel is lying in its entrance. The style of the painting remembers of the Eckersberg school from the Golden Age of Danish Art, although it is painted later.

Following are shown some more photos of the painting:

and a detail photo of the signal flags (which identifies the ship) and the small boat in the foreground::

A good quality marine painting / ship portrait from the last days of the wooden ships. Notable is especially the nice handling of the light in the sails and the well and detailled execution of the ship.
