Peintre: August Fischer (1854-1921) - Vue de Vevey, Lac Leman - Huile sur toile - 31 x 50 cm - signee et datee en bas a droite "Aug. Fischer, Vevey 1887 - cadre original (fin du XIX siecle)

The artist painted this View from his own experience, doing a sketch plein-air and executing the painting afterwards. He visited several places in Switzerland from 1886 until 1892 (eg. Silvaplana, Interlaken, Lake Lugano etc.) and probably also stayed for a while in Vevey. August Fischer (1854-1921) belonged to a well known family of artists. He was the son of the Philip August Fischer and the older brother of the Paul Fischer. He studied at the Technical School in 1869 and in 1874 at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen. Later he became a master student of P.S. Kroyer, an artist from the "Skagen Connection", a group of artists who were strongly influenced by the French Impressionists and featured the Northern Light and People at Skagen. August Fischer travelled to Germany in 1881 where he worked and lived in Nürnburg and Rothenburg. In 1883 he worked and lived in Spain and Italy, where he stayed in Venice and Florence. After 1884 he worked and lived in Southern Germany, Switzerland and Southern Europe. He exhibited at Charlottenborg Castle from 1874 until 1922, at the Art Union Nov. 18 from 1882 until 1921 at the Nord Art Exhibition from 1883 until 1888 and at other places. His views from Italy, Switzerland, Germany are widely appreciated by collectors in Europe. He is represented at the Aarhus Kunstmuseum and other museum collections. Fischer is listed in the Thieme-Becker, Benezit, Weilbach encyclopaedia and many other literature about art.

A larger painting with a View of the Tiber / Rome was sold in 2004 at BR Auction for EUR 11,500 (= CHF 17.825 or US$ 14.000). We had earlier this year a View of Monaco by Fischer, which is valued at the same price (we do not state sale prices from paintings which we do not own anymore):

Monte Carlo / Monaco View

Important Coastal View of Monte Carlo, Monaco - 1894 - sunshine view of the "Rock" in Monaco with the Grimaldi Palace and the Bay which is today the Port de Fontvieille (private Yacht Harbor) - Oil on canvas on original stretcher, 49 by 74 cm (19 by 29 in.), with frame 62 x 88 cm (24 1/2 by 35 in.) - signed and dated "Aug. Fischer, Monaco, (18)94" lower right - outstanding condition, no damage or retouch, cleaned, ready to hang, original frame (with slight wear) - Private Collection, Monte Carlo, Monaco

Note: As we note on this painting: Towards the end of the 19th Century this town and bay was a quite calm and romantic coastal place with a few buildings only. There are olive trees in the foreground and there is only one two-masted local sailing vessel on the sea. Photo Copyright is with the FineArtEmporium.

The Vevey painting by Fischer is in excellent condition. No damages, no holes, no repairs, no touchup (has also been checked with UV blacklight). It has the original stretcher and frame (frame has slight age wear in few places). Our restorer just cleaned it carefully and applied a new varnish. Please refer also to the photos to see the good condition.
