Notes:
|
Baagoe is a respected Danish marine artist, who worked in the tradition of the Eckersberg School. He preferred calm motifs and scenes and we notice a detailled drawing of the vessels depicted. He exhibited from 1855 on at the Charlottenborg in Copenhagen and travelled as an artist to Iceland and Norway. He usually signed "Carl Baagoe", only rarely his works are signed with his monogram and initials "C.B." only. We have to note on this occasion that there were other Danish marine artists, for instance Carl Bille, who used this monogram also. Baagoe is represented in several local Museums in Denmark but not internationally. |
